Knights in Parade

New Haven St. Mary's Church, where the Knights of Columbus was founded.

Who are the Knights?
The Knights of Columbus is the world's largest Catholic family fraternal service organization with 1.6 million members. It provides members and their families with volunteer opportunities in service to the Catholic Church, their communities, families and young people.

As a member of the Knights of Columbus you and your family enjoy many benefits, including 12 free issues annually of the Columbia magazine, the world's largest Catholic family magazine, eligibility to join the Knights of Columbus top-ranked life insurance program, and many more family and personal benefits.

By joining the Knights of Columbus, you accomplish three things:

1. You'll formalize your commitment to help. Many of you help already, and the council gratefully acknowledges the support. But the more of us we have working together, the more we can accomplish and easier it will be.

2. You'll get a feeling of belonging to a group of like-minded men. The men and their families that are active within your council work well together. They gain an opportunity to meet new people, and establish new friendships. These new relationships increase the feeling of belonging within the parish family, and add warmth to your presence in church. This is important as our community continues to grow, and along with it, our parish.

3. You'll have an opportunity to obtain additional financial security and support for your family. Financial security is available though the Knights of Columbus insurance program, Increased support for your family is a bonus that comes from the fraternal aspect of the organization.

How To Join
Membership in the Knights of Columbus is open to practicing Catholic men in union with the Holy See, who are at least 18 years old. A practicing Catholic is one who lives up to the Commandments of God and the precepts of the Church. Application blanks are available from any member of the Knights of Columbus.

For information concerning membership or transfer please contact:                             Tom Czubaj (membership director)  @ 734-878-6381 or Dale Pepper @ 734-878-9484 or you may contact Grand Knight Kevin Schang @734-878-6902

4th Degree EmblemAny Third Degree member in good standing, one year after the anniversary of his First Degree, is eligible for membership in the Fourth Degree. The primary purpose of the Fourth Degree is to foster the spirit of patriotism by promoting responsible citizenship and a love of and loyalty to the Knights' respective countries through active membership in local Fourth Degree groups (called "assemblies"). Certain members of the Fourth Degree serve as honor guards at civic and religious functions, an activity that has brought worldwide recognition to the Knights of Columbus.

Squires EmblemUnder the guidance of Christian Brother Barnabas McDonald (1865-1929), the first Columbian Squires circle was instituted in 1925. Membership in the Squires is for Catholic boys between the ages of 12 and 17. Squires' activities are many, varying from spiritual to active service for the Church and community. Each circle elects officer members from their own rank, teaching skills of leadership and responsibility.

The Knights Daughters was started to provide an opportunity for Catholic young ladies to come together (with adult guidance) to learn how to conduct and/or attend a business meeting (using Parliamentary Procedure), how to organize and successfully carry-out fundraisers, to become involved in community service and parish activities in preparation for their lives as Christian adults.

What are the requirements?
* Girls between the ages of 10-17.
* A baptized Catholic.

NOTE: It is not required that the Knights Daughter candidate have any relative involved with the KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS
